AC Cooling Maintenance and Repair Services in Erie, PA

You probably don’t think much about the air conditioner in your Erie, PA home when the weather is cold and your heater is constantly running. However, as spring ushers increasingly warmer temperatures in, cooling systems quickly move to the top of the list in importance. After months of sitting dormant, your air conditioner is hardly prepared for the challenges ahead. Thus, before turning it on for the cooling season, there are three important steps to take.

1. Check and Change Your HVAC Air Filter

Make sure that your HVAC air filter is clean and correctly installed. This component should be checked monthly and changed as needed. Before the cooling season arrives, it’s a good idea to stock up on air filters so that you always have fresh ones on hand.

You should also take a look at the air registers, grilles, and vents throughout your home. If these are coated in debris, wipe them down using a damp cloth. You can also remove their covers and extract any build-ups just behind them by using your vacuum cleaner’s hose. If you haven’t scheduled air duct cleaning service in more than three years, this is a good time to take care of that maintenance task as well.

2. Inspect the Outside AC Condenser

The air conditioner condenser at the exterior of your home should have ample clearance on all sides. Make sure that this unit has at least two feet of clearance around its perimeter by removing branches and leaves. During spring, you should revisit this area frequently to verify that new growth isn’t blocking airflow.

3. Schedule AC Tune-Up Service

Although filter changes, vent cleaning, and light maintenance at your air conditioner’s condenser are all essential steps before turning your air conditioner on, they don’t eliminate the need for annual AC service. Early spring is an excellent time to schedule your yearly AC tune-up. This will help you beat the seasonal heat, and it will prepare your cooling equipment for the near-constant demand that lies just ahead.
